A 24-foot outdoor sculpture of a parent and child joined at the hip, linked by beaded necklaces and a ladder.

Simpson’s sculpture rises over the museum’s façade as two figures, parent and child, attached at the hip and connected by beaded necklaces and an ornamental ladder. It honors relationships, intergenerational bonds and spiritual witnessing rather than individuals.

Conceived for the site, it works as a counter-monument to the colonial violence of the California Mission system and the erasure of Native peoples in San Francisco. The parent figure looks out over the city, and the work is visible from as far as Yerba Buena Gardens.
