Mark BradfordUntitled (A–Z), 2010
Through Jan 3, 2027
Twenty-six works on paper, each a single sanded-down letter cut from layered local advertising posters.
The twenty-six sheets grow out of Bradford’s ongoing “merchant posters” project, in which he gathers local business flyers from his South Los Angeles neighborhood. Layering and sanding the posters—some bearing phrases like “Stop Evictions” and “Affordable Daycare”—he abstracts them down to fragments, isolating one letter of the alphabet in each work so the text becomes symbol rather than message, pointing to the economic pressures on the community the materials came from.
The show is organized by associate curator Yelena Keller.
