Opening soon

Photographs from the archive of Nanda Lanfranco, who documented artists and exhibitions of the Italian and international art scene from the 1970s.

The focus presents the archive of photographer Nanda Lanfranco, on loan to MAXXI since 2024, the year she died. It traces a career spent largely out of the spotlight yet central to recording key figures and exhibitions in contemporary art.

It begins with her work in 1970s Genoa, where she came to performance photography through the Samangallery, and follows her long friendship with Germano Celant. Her images ran in magazines such as Domus, Artforum, Artpress and Il Giornale dell’Arte. Curated by Lara Conte.
