Shirin NeshatDo U Dare!

MAXXI

Nov 13, 2026 – Jan 10, 2027 Flaminio

Opening soon

A trilogy of films and a series of photographs inspired by Nasim Aghdam, set in Brooklyn, Wall Street and a suburban home.

Neshat’s project takes its starting point from Nasim Aghdam, an Iranian-born online figure who in 2018 opened fire at YouTube’s headquarters after believing she had been censored, then killed herself. Her story is used to explore exile, power, gender and the making of identity.

The three films move between an immigrant neighborhood in Brooklyn, the Wall Street financial district and the suburban home where Nasim makes her digital performances, questioning the American dream, imperial ambition and media power. Conceived for Gallery 5, the installation combines set design, video and photography. Curated by Bartolomeo Pietromarchi.
