Sandra Vásquez de la HorraReading the Waves
Sep 10 – Oct 29, 2026 Chelsea
Beeswax-coated drawings and folding paper sculptures by the Chilean-born, Berlin-based artist, built around ocean deities, plants and signs read in nature.
In her first show with the gallery, Vásquez de la Horra sets monumental drawings in a chapel-like circle in the main space, oriented to the sun and the cardinal points. Large triptychs picture Olokun, the Orisha of the deep ocean, among sea creatures.
Upstairs, a hanging accordion-fold sculpture of Yemanyá, Orisha of the ocean and rivers, nods to the nearby Hudson and can be seen from both sides; a smaller room turns to plants and a triptych of Pacha-Mama.
