Rita Lundqvist
New small-scale oil paintings on panel of lone figures and pairs in muted, flattened landscapes divided by a horizon line.
Lundqvist’s new panels show single figures or pairs in quiet, ritual-like scenes: two men with a shovel and an ax beside saplings, two women eyeing a fallen blossom, a figure blending into a row of stones. Greys, indigos, pale yellows and ochres dominate, and a stark horizon splits each scene like a stage set.
This is the Swedish painter’s fourth show with the gallery and her first in nearly ten years.
