Queens Museum

From Oct 1, 2021 Flushing Meadows Corona Park

A mural on the museum’s facade portraying Black trans femme activists, painted in the style of Aaron Douglas.

Tuitt’s mural belongs to her series Black, Trans, & ___, which honors the contributions of Black trans people to New York’s social justice and artistic movements. It depicts figures including Marsha P. Johnson, Miss Major Griffin Gracy, Ceyenne Doroshow, Qween Jean, Tourmaline and Gia Love, and was made with BTFA Collective and GLITS Inc.

It was made for Not a Monolith, a public art initiative for emerging Black artists, and stays on view. A companion project, Black, Trans, & Heard, lets visitors listen to local Black trans femmes’ stories.
