A monumental installation of black starlight globes and hanging black droplets, made for a terminal at LaGuardia Airport.
Wilson’s commission for Delta Air Lines and the Queens Museum draws on seeing the world reduced to small dots from an airplane. He removed country names from the globes and marked land masses with swatches of bright color, so they no longer work as maps.
The black droplets, which he calls drips, suggest water, oil and tar as well as the Earth’s resources and the atmosphere of space. The work is on view in the terminal rather than at the museum.
