New charcoal works on canvas drawn from carnival games, casinos and Las Vegas, about competition and risk in American life.
Park begins each canvas with improvised charcoal marks, building black-and-white scenes that slip between figure and abstraction. The new series takes its imagery from board games, arcades, carnival stalls and Las Vegas casinos, using games of winning and losing to look at an American culture that measures success by coming out ahead.
Park was born in South Korea in 1996, grew up in Utah and lives in Brooklyn.
