Painting, sculpture and furniture by seven Los Angeles artists and designers who grew up elsewhere, linked by the Hong Kong and Japanese films they grew up on.
Rather than a common subject, the artists share early memories of Hong Kong cinema and Japanese film and animation, known up close by some and by others only through screens and subtitles. That inheritance shows in how they handle a room, a table, dim light or a figure just leaving the frame.
Works range from oil paintings and a painting on silk to sculptures built around a television and a toaster oven, and a washi-paper credenza with built-in lights.
