Beto De VolderErrant Geometries
A dozen ink drawings of repeating, improvised geometric forms drawn from weaving, basketry and circuitry.
The dozen ink drawings follow geometric rules but drift from them, their lines looping, doubling back and repeating, so that patterns that look strict from across the room turn loose and improvised up close.
De Volder, born in Buenos Aires in 1962 and based in New York, started out in the 1990s among Argentine artists rethinking Latin American geometric abstraction. His forms draw on weaving and basketry as well as circuits and networks. It is his first solo show at Hosfelt.
