New paintings that set flat geometry against illusionistic depth, built around the window, with smaller, more gestural works on paper.
Oberthaler, an Austrian painter based in Brussels, shows large new acrylic canvases that read as windows or thresholds: flat planes of color and geometry, with oblique lines running back toward a vanishing point, some suggesting a half-open door or light past a blind. Aluminum paint layered with color catches the light as visitors move.
A group of small paintings on paper is looser and more gestural, picking out fragments of the large compositions.
