Musée d’Orsay

Oct 6, 2026 – Jan 31, 2027 Saint-Germain-des-Prés

Fri, Oct 16Inaugural lecture by the curators, 12:30 pm

Nearly 80 paintings, pastels and prints spanning Mary Cassatt’s career, the first major show of her work in a French national museum.

Marking the centenary of her death, the show follows Cassatt from early portraits of her family through her scenes of young women at home and at the theater, shown at four Impressionist exhibitions from 1879, to the mother-and-child pictures she became known for. A film digitally restores Modern Woman, her lost 4 × 18 meter mural for the 1893 Chicago world’s fair.

It ends with paintings from the 1915 New York exhibition she organized for women’s suffrage. Organized with the National Portrait Gallery, London, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
