Solo exhibition
Danh Vo
New work in which Vo reworks antique objects, from Roman marble fragments and a Gothic Madonna to Vietnamese ceramics raised from the seabed.
Vo’s return to New York after his 2018 Guggenheim show continues his recent Stedelijk Museum exhibition. Two Roman-era marble fragments, joined with brass, hang from the ceiling; a 19th-century German torture device for the leg meets a 1st-century Roman head in a portrait of his friend Julie Ault; and a limewood Madonna and Child attributed to Tilman Riemenschneider’s workshop returns as a bronze cast.
Rare Vietnamese ceramics recovered from the seabed appear with his father Phung Vo’s calligraphy naming the plants and animals pictured on them.
