Noguchi Museum × Ikenobo: 40 Years in New York — A Living Tradition of Flowers and Space
Ikenobo Ikebana Society New York City Chapter masters and members
About 45 ikebana arrangements by masters and members of the Ikenobo Ikebana Society’s New York chapter, shown in a two-day exhibition.
The show marks forty years of the Ikenobo Ikebana Society’s New York City Chapter. Ikenobo, founded in Kyoto more than 550 years ago, is the oldest school of ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement based on close observation of nature.
Arrangements are presented as sculptural forms, set beside the ideas in Isamu Noguchi’s work: balance and tension, movement and stillness, and the way form and emptiness give each other meaning. It is free with museum admission.
