Isamu Noguchi, Ruth Asawa, George Nakashima and others

The Noguchi Museum

Sep 20, 2026 – Jan 10, 2027 Long Island City

Sculpture, furniture, graphic design and fiber art by six Japanese American and Japanese-influenced artists of the postwar era.

The show brings together Isamu Noguchi, George Nakashima, Leo Amino, S. Neil Fujita, Kay Sekimachi and Ruth Asawa, the first exhibition to unite all six. It looks at how each helped shape modern American art and design.

It also considers the experiences behind their work, including the effect of Japanese and Japanese American incarceration during World War II. The show is held offsite at the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia.
