Eleven artists’ prints, photographs, paintings and assemblages from the museum’s collection, chosen by fourteen high school students.

Fourteen New York City high school students in the Teen Summer 2026 program curated this show from the Bronx Museum’s permanent collection. They chose eleven artists working in printmaking, photography, painting and assemblage, guided by questions about how artists defy convention, experiment with materials and use their work as resistance.

The exhibition treats defiance as a sustained practice of surpassing limits rather than a single act of rebellion. It includes Jamel Shabazz’s 1980 photograph Rush Hour, Brooklyn, New York.
