Alexandra McGowanFervor

Sargent’s Daughters

Sep 25 – Oct 24, 2026 Tribeca

Hazy abstract paintings in acrylic and chalk pastel on cotton bedsheets, evoking queer domestic intimacy and unease.

McGowan stretches white cotton bedsheets like canvas, matching those on her own bed, and saturates them with acrylic by letting water carry and blur the pigment, so gravity and the fabric’s absorbency shape each composition.

Muted tones from her earlier work now mix with acid greens, sulfuric yellows and rich magentas, registering both the tenderness of the bedroom and a sense of political instability and surveillance. Fervor is McGowan’s New York solo gallery debut.
