Claire FalkensteinSan Francisco, Paris, Rome
Sep 10 – Oct 31, 2026 Tribeca
About twenty sculptures, several unseen since the 1950s, following Falkenstein from San Francisco to postwar Paris and Rome, in the gallery’s first show of her work.
Works in copper, glass, iron, aluminum, plastic, wood and clay run from hand-built ceramics of 1938–1940 and Sequoia (1949–1950), a log she carved outdoors, to the wire structures she made in Paris among the critic Michel Tapié’s art autre circle.
At the center are the Suns, open webs of brazed metal begun in 1954, some set with fused glass. Sun #11 (1957), more than five and a half feet across, is shown for the first time in nearly seventy years.
