Solo exhibition
Leonilson
Sep 15 – Oct 24, 2026 Chelsea
Assemblages, paintings, drawings and embroideries spanning the short career of the Brazilian artist José Leonilson (1957–1993).
The show follows Leonilson from mixed-media assemblages of the mid-1970s, such as Mirro (1975), a jeans fragment and embroidered felt sealed in a box, through the varied drawings and paintings of the 1980s to the small embroideries he made after his HIV diagnosis in 1991. Maps, vessels, windows, bodies and handwritten words recur throughout.
It is organized with Projeto Leonilson and Almeida & Dale.
