Thomas Ruffjpegs ny
Twelve large pixelated photographs Thomas Ruff made from internet images of the September 11 attacks, shown for the 25th anniversary.
Ruff was in New York on September 11, 2001, but came home to Germany to find his camera held no pictures. In 2004 he began working from images of the day found online, compressing them, cutting their resolution and adding color, then printing them at the size of nineteenth-century history paintings, where the pixel grid stands in for brushwork and the image resolves only from a distance. The group was shown at Art Basel Unlimited earlier this year.
