Solo exhibition
Yoshitomo Nara
New paintings, drawings and bronze sculptures by Yoshitomo Nara, shown alongside early works from the 1980s.
At 537 West 20th Street, new paintings in muted, layered color hang with works begun as colored-pencil sketches washed in translucent acrylic, large monochrome paint-stick drawings, and early works from the 1980s chosen by the artist.
At 533 West 19th Street are thirteen bronze heads, tenfold enlargements of palm-sized clay models coated in matte white, recalling the snow “monsters” of his childhood winters. It is Nara’s first show with David Zwirner and his first major solo show in New York in nearly a decade.
