Logan T. SibrelLine Out
New oil paintings and works on paper treating still life, portraits, paused screens and audio gear as interchangeable fragments of visual noise.
Sibrel’s fourth solo show with the gallery takes its name from the audio term for an unadjusted signal sent straight to an amplifier, which he likens to his own role as a steady conduit for visual “noise.” The paintings and drawings move between still lifes, portraits, television stills frozen mid-scene, and musicians and their equipment, often treating objects as stand-ins for people.
Working in oil, ink, gouache, charcoal and pencil, Sibrel isolates these fragments from a larger stream of imagery, editing and recombining them much as the title’s other meaning, crossing something out, suggests.
