Jay Michelle ElizondoPaper Doll
Hand-drawn paper doll cut-outs in accordion-book domestic scenes, with a projected childhood home video, on trans girlhood and nostalgia.
Elizondo’s first solo show pairs two bodies of work. Paper Dolls (2026) is a series of six digitally hand-drawn dolls of the artist as the girl she could not be, set in an accordion book that unfolds into three-dimensional paper rooms built from archival photographs of her childhood home.
Nearby, I’m A Girl (2023) projects a five-minute home video of the artist at four in her grandmother’s garden, with added subtitles and a bleep over her deadname. The show is the culmination of her 2025–2026 A.I.R. fellowship.
