Text works and sculptural structures by Theodore Svenningsen, made over a number of years, on how we know through words and images.
The show pairs two bodies of work. The TEXT pieces use words both as plain statements and as aesthetic material, taking up fitting in with a group, money as a measure of people, the temporariness of life, and self-referential art.
The STRUCTURES work covers visual cognition in several series: Primitive Structures, Anxious Objects and the Primordial Series. Svenningsen studied philosophy at U.C.L.A. before earning an MFA in painting at Otis, and his work is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
