A survey of thirteen Southern California artists chosen by the museum’s curators for work that stood out over the past year.

The museum’s annual survey gathers thirteen artists whose recent work impressed the curators, offering a snapshot of current directions in contemporary art in Southern California.

The title recalls the baker’s dozen of medieval England, when an extra loaf guarded against penalties for underweight bread. The curators use it to acknowledge their own biases while focusing on art rooted in the present. Participants include Sining Zhu, Mark Dean Veca, Heidi Schwegler and Renee Pepion.
