Hammer Projects: Vibeke Mascini

Hammer Museum

Sep 12, 2026 – Jan 17, 2027 Westwood

Two new commissions by Vibeke Mascini, who works with electricity: a copper-cast ceiba tree wired to a streetlight, and three glowing moth pupae.

Mascini, born in The Hague in 1989, treats electrical energy as her material. In Zombie, a young ceiba tree cast in copper salvaged from stripped wire in Mexico City has roots electroformed onto a cable that powers a violet LED streetlight. Facing it, the three resin sculptures of Amber Highway, like hanging moth pupae, glow amber off their own car batteries; together they form a circuit about public lighting in Los Angeles. Pablo José Ramírez curates.
