Saul Steinberg“Give Them a Riddle”

Saul Steinberg

Benton Museum of Art

Aug 22, 2026 – Jan 3, 2027 Claremont

Nearly all of 75 recently gifted works by Saul Steinberg: drawings, prints, wallpaper, sculptures and drawings on metal plates.

The show draws on a gift of 75 works from The Saul Steinberg Foundation to the Benton, tracing five decades of his practice. It runs from early commercial work and ink drawings to later sculptures of his workspace and drawings on unconventional surfaces such as metal plates.

It follows how Steinberg’s playful graphic language developed and how he used it to satirize post–World War II culture. It was organized by Victoria Sancho Lobis and student curatorial intern Arivumani Srivastava ’26.
