Glenn LigonDouble America
Glenn Ligon’s neon work Double America (2012), shown on its own as part of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation’s “We the people” program.
A single work: two rows of neon spelling AMERICA, the upper one with every letter reversed and the lower one its correct mirror image, about 3 meters wide. Ligon uses the doubled word to question the idea of one American story and to point to the country’s history.
