Il Colosso di Costantino

Musei Capitolini

Jan 1 – Dec 31, 2026 Campidoglio

A full-scale, 13-metre reconstruction of the colossal statue of Constantine, standing in the garden of Villa Caffarelli.

The statue was rebuilt from 3D scans of the surviving fourth-century marble fragments kept in the courtyard of Palazzo dei Conservatori: a head, arm, hand, knee, shin and feet. Factum Foundation made it in resin and polyurethane with marble dust, gold leaf and plaster, over an easily dismantled aluminium frame.

Shown as a seated Constantine in the guise of Jupiter, it stands on part of the site of the Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus. It was first presented in Milan in the show Recycling Beauty (2022–23) and has been at Villa Caffarelli since February 2024. Admission is free.
