Suanjaya KencutWhere Do We Belong?
Sep 25 – Nov 9, 2026 Campo Marzio
Fifteen acrylic paintings and twelve fiberglass sculptures by the Indonesian artist Suanjaya Kencut, peopled by still, doll-like figures with buttons for eyes.
Kencut, born in Badung, Bali, in 1994 and based in Yogyakarta, sets his blank-faced figures in ordinary scenes and poses and leaves their stories open. They descend from the giant puppets of the Barong dances performed at Hindu ceremonies in Bali, and his repeated patterns and bright palette borrow from the carvings and textiles of Balinese temples, and from fashion design.
The catalogue, from Silvana Editoriale, has an essay by Maria Vittoria Pinotti and an interview with the artist by Gaia Regoli.
