Antonio FinelliElegie romane
Paintings of Rome’s architecture under a steady, overhead light, by a Rome-based artist who also works in Berlin and Marrakech.
Finelli’s paintings take images of Rome out of the fragmented pace of the digital age. Light is the subject: not the shifting light of Impressionism or Baroque chiaroscuro, but an absolute, zenithal light falling on the city’s buildings, in a figurative style that is direct and at once metaphysical.
The artist has long worked between Rome, Berlin and Marrakech. Medina Art Gallery organized his 2022 solo show at Palazzo Merulana.
