Allen’s first solo show with Perrotin: new bronzes cast from small hand-made models, every one titled “Not Yet Titled”.
The sculptures begin as hand-sized models that Allen shapes from string, clay or wax; they are scanned, enlarged and cast in bronze at the foundry at his home. Many twist and coil like nautical knots, and he made several after time in Venice this year, where he is representing the United States at the Biennale.
A series of new wall-mounted works, ridged and pleated like folded hide, hangs alongside the freestanding pieces.
