Vija Celmins

Musée de l’Orangerie

Sep 30, 2026 – Feb 15, 2027 Tuileries

Drawings, paintings and prints of sea, desert, night sky and snow made by Vija Celmins between 1971 and 2000, shown near Monet’s Water Lilies.

This season’s contemporary counterpoint presents works Celmins made from 1971 to 2000 in drawing, painting, printmaking and woodcut, among them Night Sky #11 (1995). Each fills the surface with water, sand, stars or snow, with no horizon or point of reference, playing flatness against illusion.

The works hang in the pronaos and the contemporary gallery, in dialogue with the Water Lilies. Curated by Claire Bernardi and Sophie Eloy.
