Hugo RuyantPastoral Melody
Paintings of a flock without its shepherd, each sheep given its own portrait, shown with imaginary star-filled skies.
Ruyant takes up the pastoral, a staple of Western painting in which the shepherd leads and the lamb stands for innocence and sacrifice, and leaves the shepherd out, so that the flock breaks into distinct characters. Paintings of invented constellations hang alongside, maps of a sky with no fixed direction. The show fills both the ground and first floors.
