Elmgreen & DragsetLes Fous d’En Face
Three new installations filling both spaces: a lifelike, exhausted boxer in a ring, a giant steel clown nose, and a sculpture strapped to a Fiat 500.
How to Become an Artist sets a hyperreal figure of the young Michael Elmgreen, red-gloved and spent, in a full-size boxing ring with no opponent. The Optimist is an oversized red steel clown nose on a white wall, with applause playing from an old radio; Dragset studied clowning at a Copenhagen theater school before he became an artist. In Il mio Giardino a huge white reclining figure is strapped to the roof of a red vintage Fiat 500. It is the duo’s second show with the gallery and the first in its Paris space.
