Susan MeiselasNicaragua, Histoire, Mémoire

Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson

Oct 21, 2026 – Mar 7, 2027 Marais

Photographs, documents and film extracts tracing Susan Meiselas’s Nicaragua images from the 1978–79 revolution to their later afterlives.

Meiselas first went to Nicaragua in 1978, photographing daily life, street fighting and the Sandinista victory over Somoza’s regime. After her 1981 book, she kept returning for four decades, recording how her pictures reappeared on T-shirts, stamps, matchboxes and murals.

More than a hundred works, documents and film excerpts explore the gap between what the images recorded and what they came to symbolize. Curated by Clément Chéroux, the show comes with a catalogue from Atelier EXB.
