Oct 21, 2026 – Mar 7, 2027 Marais

Mostly unpublished photographs by Martine Franck of the feminist movement in 1970s Paris, and of the feminist press.

Franck photographed the women’s liberation movement (MLF) mainly in Paris during the 1970s. The show, made mostly of previously unseen prints, looks at the collective visual culture of those struggles: marches, the rise of the feminist press, and periodicals as a means of circulating images. A founding member of the Viva agency in 1972, she shared the movement’s wariness of how images are used.

From the 1980s, her public commissions “Des femmes et la création” and “Des métiers et des femmes” mark a more individual relation to feminism. Curated by Angèle Ferrere, winner of the 2025 Martine Franck curatorial research grant.
