Recent retroreflective works and sculptures by the American artist, his first show with the gallery and his first in Paris in nearly 20 years.
The retroreflective pieces, new to Paris, change with the light: one bold composition shows under ambient light, and archival photographs of protests and civil rights marches surface under a camera flash. Woman in the Red Dress (After Keïta) builds on Seydou Keïta’s 1957 Bamako portrait; The Toiler and Circe pairs figures by Aaron Douglas and Romare Bearden.
Sculptures include Community, a ring of hands gripping one another’s wrists in a rainbow patina, and Everything we see hides another thing, two veiled figures recalling Magritte.
