Louise BourgeoisExtrême tension
Drawings and prints by Louise Bourgeois from the Centre Pompidou and the BnF, her first show at a Paris public institution since 2008.
Bringing the two institutions’ holdings together for the first time, the show traces how drawing and printmaking fed each other in her work, from a 1942 self-portrait and the 1947 portfolio He Disappeared into Complete Silence through tangled line drawings and the Femme-Maison figures.
At its center is Extreme tension (2007), eleven large sheets on aging and pain, shown with Turning Inwards, new to French audiences, and late works in red ink and fabric dye.
