Pierre KnopLe Sacre du Printemps
Eleven new landscape paintings without figures, in oil, acrylic, ink, pastel and crayon.
Knop’s third solo show with the gallery turns wholly to landscape: mountains, trees and flowing water, with the human figures that often appeared in his earlier work removed. Made over a year, the eleven paintings combine oil, acrylic, ink, oil stick, pastel, crayon and pencil, and take shape through improvisation and accepted mistakes rather than a fixed plan.
The title borrows from Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, which Knop often played on vinyl in the studio while painting.
