Sep 17 – Nov 14, 2026 Upper East Side

Wed, Nov 11Madison Avenue Gallery Walk (Art Week NYC), through Nov 14

Rarely shown abstract paintings and works on paper made between 1948 and 1950 by Longfield, an overlooked first-generation Bay Area Abstract Expressionist.

Longfield studied with Clyfford Still, David Park and Richard Diebenkorn at the California School of Fine Arts, but her canvases of the late 1940s, in muted grays, pinks and purples, are closer in mood to Surrealism than to her teachers’ Bay Area light. With few galleries open to her, she kept painting; the works were found in the home where she lived until her death in 2013. It is the gallery’s second solo show of her work since taking on her estate.
