Phoebe DerleeBurns
Oct 8 – 29, 2026 Tribeca
New oil paintings of self-portraits lying on her side, bread, pitchers, a road and a roof, in simple, quickly painted images.
Derlee’s recent paintings turn from nudes and portraits of her circle toward a more interior kind of picture. A series of self-portraits shows the artist lying on her side, awake, a pose that often comes to her mind when she considers where she exists in the world.
Recurring motifs such as a loaf of bread, an empty pitcher and a curving road stand in for a private, portable mental world. The works are oil on linen or canvas, dated 2026, with a text by David Colman.
