Every Angel Is Terrifying
Dane Manary and Shayna Strype
Oct 9 – 24, 2026 Williamsburg
Sat, Oct 17Steam Works Kids Workshop, 1–3 pm
Fri, Oct 23Closing night, 7–10 pm
A multimedia installation of kinetic sculpture, projected animation, video and photography, including Pepper’s Ghost illusions.
Manary and Strype build a life-size imagined space inspired by paper dollhouses, using an archive of objects, paper ephemera, video and photographs, plus practical effects and early optical illusions, to suggest a plane visited by angels and apparitions. The title comes from Rilke’s Duino Elegies.
It is the artists’ first installation-based collaboration, joining Manary’s photography and bookmaking with Strype’s animation and performance.
