Magalie Guérina hand a hand

Paintings and glazed ceramic sculptures by the Marfa-based Guérin, shown together in the US for the first time and sharing rich color and hard-to-name shapes.

Guérin’s second solo show with the gallery takes its title from Gertrude Stein’s Tender Buttons. The oil paintings grow through rounds of revision and the ceramics through stacking and balancing, and both show her hand in scribbles, scrapes and thick impasto. Among them is one of her largest paintings yet, a chartreuse, limb-like shape pressing into a striated green field.
