Emily PettigrewGenii Loci
Sep 9 – Oct 24, 2026 Tribeca
New paintings of charged, remembered places, including a self-portrait at Andrew Wyeth’s Olsen House.
Pettigrew paints sites where she feels an otherworldly charge, drawing on the old British idea of genii loci, or spirits of place. A recent trip to the Olsen House in Maine, the setting of Wyeth’s Christina’s World, led to a tender self-portrait of the artist offering her hand to a horse there; she has described a kinship with Christina Olson, who, like Pettigrew, lived with a physical disability.
Other paintings render a dog scattering autumn leaves along a path, each scene asking how people leave trace and spirit in the places they pass through.
