Young-Il AhnSelf Reflections

Perrotin

Sep 9 – Oct 17, 2026 Lower East Side

Closing soon

Ten Water paintings and other abstractions made in California over fifty years, by the late Korean-American painter Young-Il Ahn.

The show is the first solo presentation of Ahn (1934–2020) at Perrotin New York and the gallery’s second since taking on his estate in 2025. Ten Water paintings, made with a palette knife in layered, repeating marks, hang from c. 1985 to 2018.

Alongside them are works from the Harbor, Musicians, Horse Race and Self Reflection series, and Memorial to September 11, 2001, a dense grid painting that serves as a response to the attacks. Together they trace the personal experiences behind his abstractions.
