Aryo Toh DjojoLeap into the Void
Airbrushed paintings of UFOs and abductions, composited polaroids and new sound works by a Los Angeles artist.
Toh Djojo, a self-described ufologist raised on Hollywood spectacle, paints cinematic desert and city vistas in freehand airbrush, with figures ascending and spacecraft hovering in soft, edgeless light. A new series hides texts taken from ads, film and social media under the images, revealed by blacklight.
Polaroids made from found UFO-sighting ephemera, cut, composited and re-photographed, nod to Yves Klein’s Leap into the Void. He also debuts experimental sound works. It is his third solo show with Perrotin and his first in New York.
