Li Hei Dithe year of mud
New paintings by London-based Li Hei Di, figurative and abstract, made over a year of personal transition.
Li’s new paintings sit between figuration and abstraction, with shifting bodies that act as vessels for memory, emotion and desire. Painted in a shimmering palette, the compositions emerge slowly as forms surface and recede. The title draws on the Chinese myth of the goddess Nüwa, who made people from flung drops of mud; Li relates it to a year of personal transition.
The show is the artist’s first solo exhibition with Pace in New York since joining the gallery in 2024. A monograph with a new text by curator Tyler Blackwell will be published by Pace Publishing after it closes.
