William SchaeubleMiracle Paintings
New oil paintings of everyday scenes, animals and memories, some drawing on religious accounts of miracles.
Schaeuble paints people, places, animals and memories from his life in Iowa, shifting their scale, context and story until they read like folklore or personal myth. Humor, tenderness and absurdity run through the canvases, which range from small 16 by 20 inch works to 60 by 50 inch ones.
Some paintings borrow loosely from biblical miracles, as in Nap During Ascension, where a sleeping couple misses Christ’s rise to Heaven. Others, like Milkmaid (Drink Milk for Health), come from the artist’s own experience. This is his first solo show with the gallery.
